Our story
We built SatvikScan because reading ingredient labels shouldn't require a chemistry degree — or a background in Ayurvedic scripture.

Ayurveda has classified foods as Sattvic, Rajasic, or Tamasic for thousands of years. But when you're standing in the snack aisle, that knowledge is hard to apply. SatvikScan bridges that gap — scan a barcode, get an instant answer.
We also layer in Vegan, Vegetarian, and Jain compatibility, so one scan covers multiple dietary needs at once. No more cross-referencing three different apps.
SatvikScan is built and maintained by a small independent team in Sydney. We're not backed by a food brand, a supplement company, or an ad network. Our only goal is to give you accurate, honest food information.
Sattvic
Pure, fresh, nourishing. Promotes clarity and balance.
Rajasic
Stimulating and activating. May increase restlessness.
Tamasic
Heavy and dulling. Associated with lethargy.
The three gunas — from Ayurvedic tradition
Every classification decision is based on ingredients, not marketing. We show you the data and let you decide.
Our database grows through verified community contributions. Every submission is moderated and credited.
Sattvic, Rajasic, and Tamasic classifications are drawn from Ayurvedic tradition, not trend.
We rely on open-source data. We'll always tell you when something is unverified or uncertain.
Frustrated by the lack of a single app that combined Sattvic, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Jain classifications, we started building.
Launched on Android with barcode scanning and a seed database of 5,000 products. The community started contributing immediately.
Expanded to the web and iOS, added NOVA processing level scores, and crossed 50,000 verified products.
A growing community of conscious eaters across Australia, India, and the UK. Still independent. Still ad-free in the app.
Our product database is built on Open Food Facts, the largest open-source food database in the world, licensed under ODbL. On top of that foundation, our community adds and verifies products not yet in the global database.
Our Sattvic classification engine applies a rules-based ingredient analysis aligned with traditional Ayurvedic literature. We make no claim to religious authority — classifications are a guide, not a decree. Always read the physical label.
