No. Vegan and Sattvic are different classification systems that often overlap but are not identical. Vegan is a strict ingredient test — no animal products of any kind. Sattvic is an Ayurvedic quality classification that can include fresh dairy like milk, ghee, and yoghurt, none of which are vegan. Conversely, some vegan foods — such as garlic, onion, or heavily processed plant-based meat substitutes — are classified as Rajasic or Tamasic in Ayurveda. The two systems answer different questions. Sattvic classification reflects Ayurvedic quality principles around freshness and purity, while vegan status is a strict, universally recognised dietary standard that excludes any animal-derived ingredient. Someone following a vegan diet for ethical or health reasons needs the vegan badge specifically — a product can be Sattvic and still contain dairy, so relying on the Sattvic label alone would not reliably identify vegan products.
